New arena in Thorshavn, Við Tjarnir

ICT- and VDC management combined with digital solutions for international multi-purpose arena.

Articon, our trusted client, is constructing a new multi-purpose arena, Við Tjarnir, in Tórshavn on the Faroe Islands. The new multi-purpose venue will become a central hub for sports and cultural activities for the entire Faroese population. CN3 has been involved from design through execution, delivering VDC- and design management.

The project’s complexity arises from its multi-purpose functionality, scale and the necessity to be compliant to both building regulations and international sports standards. Additionally, the project team includes companies from various countries, each with distinct requirements. As a result, there was heightened emphasis on adhering to the regulations specific to the Faroe Islands.

CN3 took on the role of ICT-, VDC- and design management, contributing to efficient project planning and delivery. We facilitated robust digital design collaboration among contractors, consultants, and subcontractors, ensuring constructability and preventing additional costs and delays. Furthermore, ensuring the often-overlooked interfaces between all building elements, essential for both efficient construction and facility management. Automated digital tools were used to ensure data and design consistency, which is a basis for ensuring coordination of interfaces, true quantities, penetrations through walls and void coordination.

One of the bespoke digital solutions implemented in this project was a virtual project, incorporating the latest design, context models and additional details at each phase. This solution enabled stakeholders to experience the project in detail, facilitating effective dialogue. It also provided a comprehensive overview of the project’s scope, aiding the client in selecting materials and adjusting geometries proactively, thereby preventing potential cost and time overruns.

CN3 has significantly impacted the project by leveraging their expertise in construction and digital innovation. Their proactive approach and commitment to ensuring the quality of key supplier deliveries have provided invaluable support in maintaining the project’s schedule and budget.
